Polk Salad Annie/Tony Joe White

Photo from audiomania

Why have I never heard of this guy? An Amazon reviewer said this about his 2010 album "Shine":

"Great album by Tony Joe White. Real nice songs and guitar work with just enough swamp. This is a soulful album with a great feel. Beats me why Tony Joe isn't more popular like J.J. Cale has become."

Lloyd--Tony Joe White performed 'Polk Salad Annie' on the Roy and HG show down here (in Australia) many years ago. Great song! This link may interest you: http://www.elvisconcerts.com/real/psa01.htm

Check his song "Louisiana Rain". And he wrote "Rainy Night In Georgia" covered by many others...

Lloyd- I second Kiwi's recommendation of "Rainy Night In Georgia" "What Does It Take" and "Thought I Knew You Well" are both incredible as well

I saw Tony Joe White a couple years ago in Chicago at Schuba's (tiny room--great place to see a show). It was electrifying! What a powerful voice that man has. Too bad he was in and out like a bolt of lightning.

I was introduced to his music via mix tape (ha!) with this gem:

Here he sings "Polk Salad Annie" with the man himself on The Johnny Cash Show. They're having fun:
