Hand-made Axe Video

Hi Lloyd and friends!
This is the only email address I could find for you; thought you'd like to add this to the blog. It's simply exquisite.
-Dawn Owens

"This is a short documentary movie that shows the whole process of how the John Neeman tools are being hand crafted.
'It is a tragedy of the first magnitude that millions of people have ceased to use their hands as hands. Nature has bestowed upon us this great gift which is our hands. If the craze for machinery methods continues, it is highly likely that a time will come when we shall be so incapacitated and weak that we shall begin to curse ourselves for having forgotten the use of the living machines given to us by God.'
Mahathma Ghandi"

That was so cool to see (and to set to one of my favorite songs these days)

We've been talking locally about the importance of re-learning how to make tools like this. And shovels, scythes, hoes, rakes etc. Things we take for granted and come from far away places.

Given your good reminder of safety a few posts ago, one thing that struck me was his lack of gloves and eye protection at the start when he's shaping the red hot axe head!

PS, I also have a fantasy of making a good old fashioned incandescent light bulb as it's illegal to sell those in BC now.

Thanks for the post.
I'm inspired anew to go and "handmake an axe" tomorrow at what I do...
