Lew's Shelterpub Facebook Page

I started this blog 7 years ago. A bit reluctantly at first. (Sort of the same way I began using a Macintosh.) As the years have gone by, it's become part of my life; I'm committed to getting up at least one post a day, it gives me a quick and easy way to tell people what I discover in the world around me.
In a way it doubled my workload: I have my work as an author, photographer, and publisher — making books — and there's the blogging. Along with the occasional Tweet, a full plate.
Then along came Facebook. I just didn't have the time to get involved in this different form of communication, so Lew (Lewandowski) started doing a Shelter Facebook page. I didn't really understand how Facebook worked until yesterday when Lew and I looked over his work. I was impressed. At left is a photo that caught my eye: the mobile farm stand of the organic Four Season Farm of Harborside, Maine. Lew scans the web for items of interest.
With the blog I'm basically broadcasting; I don't have time to reply to many comments. With Lew's Facebook page, there's a flow. People don't just comment, they send photos, videos, they share with friends; it's a web of communication. So I'll keep blogging, and Lew will keep Facebooking, and this should give you a pretty good picture of what goes on in our work and with our interests: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shelter-Publications-Inc/91849471589?ref=ts

That's a great idea!

I don't think he trolls the web, tho.

I used "trolling" in the sense of fishing. Didn't realize it has a different meaning when applied to the internet. Changed "trolls" to "scans." Thanks for heads up.

Lloyd - First off, thanks for what you do. I've been a long-time visitor to your site and had the chance to sit in on a presentation that you did a couple of years back at Powell's in PDX (for Builders of the Pacific Coast). I remember first finding that book and being amazed and awed. Great stuff.

Two great handcrafted buildings that I wanted to your attention:

Lew's work on FB is an absolute treasure. There is always Heart, along with intelligence and craft, in his selections for post. Thanks Lew, you are much admired by many.

In fishing it's trawling not trolling.

From The Free Dictionary:
troll v.tr.
a. To fish for by trailing a baited line from behind a slowly moving boat.
b. To fish in by trailing a baited line: troll the lake for bass.
c. To trail (a baited line) in fishing.
2. Slang To patrol (an area) in search for someone or something:

Hi Lloyd,

I was just paging through my well worn copies of Shelter, Home Work, Builders books over the last month or so and realized that the format you guys created in Shelter so many years ago and kept going with the later books was almost like the precursor to the blogosphere. Lot's of seemingly random, but connected pictures and ideas..so in some ways you were 30-40 years ahead of the times...

Thanks for teaching me trolling as a form of fishing!

Lloyd i have owned "Homework" for a few years and i just ordered "Tiny Homes" from Amazon...you let me go dream in "Neverland" and I love your books...I am 57 and have no resources to speak of thanks to a divorce but if I ever "get my shit together" I plan on finding a postage stamp lot out in the woods and building a Tiny Home to live out my days in. If I had one on a trailer I have a cousin with acreage in Madison County Indiana (Anderson)I'm sure would allow me to park on his farm. So start saving 1 $20 bill at a time....
