Kevin Kelly's Cool Tools

This is the single most useful site/blog on the web for me. I can't say how many useful things this blog has turned me on to. It's like the electronic Whole Earth Catalog, but what's better is that it uses no paper, and it's daily.

Kevin Kelly, ex-Whole Earth Review editor, founding editor at Wired mag, author, photographer, explorer, runs this operation, with daily reviews of useful stuff.

"Cool tools really work. A cool tool can be any book, gadget, software, video, map, hardware, material, or website that is tried and true. All reviews on this site are written by readers who have actually used the tool and others like it. Items can be either old or new as long as they are wonderful. We only post things we like and ignore the rest. Suggestions for tools much better than what is recommended here are always wanted. Tell us what you love."

Easiest way to get there is to go to kk.org, then click on "Cool Tools" at the left.

I have been watching CoolTools for almost seven years now. I can't tell you how much stuff I have bought because of this sight.

Even cooler, you can browse back several years and read all the evaluations from days gone by. (remember when a usb key int he 512mb variety was over $100) Ahhh,,,,those were the days. ;)

Thanks a lot, I am doomed now. When I see way cool stuff I can barely resist it.

After browsing around I had to order the Fenix flashlight headband and the LD20 LED flashlight to go with it. Oh well, I am years overdue to get an LED flashlight, I guess I can justify that.

Every morning when I get up I sit and read the comics and then the Writer's Almanac, then onto yours and then Kevin's site. Ever so useful and enlightening. We've both submitted and it is a kick to have a review published there. It takes the place of the WEC for me also.

Wow! I got the Fenix LD20 LED flashlight and it is amazing! The size of a Mini Maglight, it will fit in your pocket, powered by 2 AA cells, it is about as bright as an auto headlight when on full power. It's a huge brilliant white beam with spot and flood fixed pattern, no artifacts or shadows whatsoever in the beam. On the lowest power setting which is a similar light output to the Mini Maglite it will run continuously for over 75 hours, and the light does not dim as the batteries discharge, it has an digital regulator built in. This thing will easily light up an acre or two at a time or just a footpath in front of you.

If you have not experienced these newest LED lights you will be astounded. I will never again be without one of these in my house, truck, backpack or pocket. Thanks CoolTools and Lloyd.
