Elephant House NOT at Burning Man

Rob Murray just pointed out that this is in France, not Burning Man:
"This gigantic animal, 12-metre high by 8-metre wide, lives in the largest warehouse. When the majestic animal goes out for its walk, it is like architecture in motion departing a steel cathedral. The 49 passengers on board embark on an amazing journey on the Ile de Nantes. Each time the pachyderm goes out, it is a unique spectacle for everyone to enjoy.…"

Thanks, Rob ! this Elephant is one of the marvelous machines built by two genius, François Delarozière and Pierre Orefice.
They've been working for a long time with ''Royal de Luxe'', a revolutionary street theater company.
The first elephant was part of a street happening show : ''The Visit of the Sultan'', in 2005. It was a tribute to french writer Jules Verne (born in Nantes in 1828). The elephant was a vehicle travelling back to ancient times, and to India.

I visit the Elephant each time I go to Nantes (600 000 inhabitants, on Atlantic coast) It' s always a strong emotion, seing it walking and swinging its trunk and roaring. I'm very proud because a friend of mine (cabinetmaker) was recruited to work on it. It's a huge and fantastic masterpiece realized by the best craftsmen and women... I'm so happy to see our Elephant on your blog !
