Are "Tiny Houses" the Next Big Trend in Homeownership?

"…Although some experts claim the recent downsizing of the American home is simply a result of demographics (most new home buyers these days are first-time home buyers, who tend to need less space), I think it’s clear that America is undergoing a bit of a cultural shift in our perceptions of what we want from our homes. People are looking for a greater degree of simplicity, affordability and efficiency, and smaller houses support all of those needs.…"

Yes, until state, county, and other local governments figure out that there property tax revenue is declining due to lower assessments.

If we remember after ww2 all the home built were simplistic and small. MAybe not tiny but not large by any means. Maybe a return to reality

Not until we change our consumer ways.
Personally I have way to much tat. The idea appeals, but the reality is that you need to be ruthless with personal possesions. living a Zen like existance with very little. Now do you honestly expect me to give up my copy of shelter ? No we need Lloyd to make a pocket sized version so that we can take it everywhere !
Cheers

Reading the interview on tiny houses, I am left with the thought that it is the people one lives with that make the difference not the house or size of it. If everyone is flat out working at stuff they hate just to pay for a huge house it is very possible that at the end of each day they might so tired and pissed off that they are not very nice people to spend time with. So they build bigger houses to get farther away from each other. Another vicious circle to break?
