American River Sales & Rentals in Auburn, Calif, has 20-30 Teardrop trailers for sale and/or rent. You can see them from highway 80, on the east side of the road.
"Teardrop trailers first became popular in the 1930s, when magazines such as Mechanics Illustrated published plans. The first teardrops were designed around the idea of using standard 4 by 8-foot sheets of plywood with hardwood spars. Teardrop trailers remained popular until the mid 1960s after which they disappeared from mainstream camping. However, in the late 1990s, plans became available on the internet and in recent years teardrop trailers have made a resurgence and are again growing in popularity." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teardrop_trailer

They look more like 'commas' - just kidding - they are cute!
I love these things so many variations on a theme and fun to put your own spin on .
I LOVED going on this site and looked up the patterns and reading and I think I'm going to send for a pattern and make one myself. nope, couldn't put harp in one of these, but so cute to camp in and cook outside. so light. And I'd have a WILD TIME painting on the outside. thanks for this post and Idea. I'm having to sell my 1988 wonderful VW Camper Vanagon. *sniff, sniff* but after seeing this post, I KNOW what I'm going to do, make one of these. THANKS AGAIN LLOYD.
I discover ''teardrop trailers'' ! Aerodynamic design, lightness, very astute. And people can build it on plans! In Europe such trailers are rare. Look at this one quite expensive (3000 english pounds) : http://www.podcaravans.co.uk/
One of the most popular tiny caravan in Europe is Eriba (german make). ''Eriba Puck'' the smallest one (1960's) is as light as a trailer, toll free and doesn't need registration document. Some fans renovate them.
Another tiny low caravan, the Wawa (Belgium) - only 290 kilograms - beds for 3 adults and 3 children !! See it on the site of the Retro Camping Club de France, http://www.rccf.net/fr/campings-bourgogne-sud-saone-et-loire.html?sobi2Task=sobi2Details&catid=71&sobi2Id=21
Other tiny lovely retro caravans on Jane and Chris's blog in U.K. :

Thanks for your post, I do regret that Auburn is so far away !
Hi Lloyd ! It is nice to discover a foreign longboarder with wits, able hands, and a sharp eye for building and design.
I will come back ... from time to time.
